چکیده
We discuss cases of salvation and non-salvation by deletion in the domain lexical gaps, distinguish two types defectiveness: (a) defectiveness that can be saved PF deletion, which we take to signal lack an eligible allomorph for certain environments within a language, (b) cannot proper alloseme given environment. With ellipsis modeled as instruction nonpronunciation on branch grammar, only gaps Exponent List it.

When Can Finite Testing Ensure Infinite Trustworthiness?
In this paper we contribute to the general philosophical question as to whether empirical testing can ever prove a physical law. Problems that lead to this question arise under several contexts, and the matter has been addressed by the likes of Bayes and Laplace. After pointing out that a Bayesian approach is the proper way to address this problem, we show that the answ...
متن کاملAdaptive developmental plasticity: what is it, how can we recognize it and when can it evolve?
Developmental plasticity describes situations where a specific input during an individual's development produces a lasting alteration in phenotype. Some instances of developmental plasticity may be adaptive, meaning that the tendency to produce the phenotype conditional on having experienced the developmental input has been under positive selection. We discuss the necessary assumptions and pred...
متن کاملCan Healthcare IT Save Babies?
Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) facilitate fast and accurate access to patient records, which could improve diagnosis and patient monitoring. Using a 12-year countylevel panel, we find that a 10 percent increase in births that occur in hospitals with EMRs reduces neonatal mortality by 16 deaths per 100,000 live births. This is driven by a reduction of deaths from conditions requiring careful ...
متن کاملTitle: Adaptation in isolated populations: when does it happen and when can we tell? Authors
Isolated populations with novel phenotypes present an exciting opportunity to uncover the genetic basis of ecologically significant adaptation, and genomic scans for positive selection in such populations have often, but not always, led to candidate genes directly related to an adaptive phenotype. However, in many cases these populations were established by a severe bottleneck, which can make i...

Isolated populations with novel phenotypes present an exciting opportunity to uncover the genetic basis of ecologically significant adaptation, and genomic scans have often, but not always, led to candidate genes directly related to an adaptive phenotype. However, in many cases these populations were established by a severe bottleneck, which can make identifying targets of selection problematic...
